Villa Astor

Perched high above the Bay of Naples, Villa Astor is a breathtaking property that boasts a magnificent view of the sea. It is widely known as “Paradise” due to its unparalleled beauty, both inside and outside. The history of this villa can be traced back to the 1st century A.D. when Agrippa Postumus, grandson of Emperor Augustus, made it his residence. Since then, it has been a home and a destination for the rich and noble. In 1905, Lord William Waldorf Astor, one of the wealthiest men of the time, purchased the property and turned it into his passion project. He expanded the territory and built a splendid garden where a Dominican monastery once stood. He also added the “Pompeiian” villa, which he decorated with Ionic columns and neo-classical frescoes by a Roman artist, Mario Spinetti. Even after Lord Astor's death, Villa Astor continued to attract notable figures, such as Benedetto Croce, the revered Italian philosopher and politician. In the 1970s, the villa was acquired by Mariano Pane and his wife, who hosted many illustrious guests, including Princess Margaret, Rudolf Nuriev, Gregory Peck, Sofia Loren, Franco Zeffirelli, and Gianni Agnelli. Today, Villa Astor is considered the ultimate luxury accommodation on the Amalfi Coast and has been featured in many luxury lifestyle and travel publications such as Town & Country, Quintessence, Forbes, Bloomberg, and the Telegraph.
